HOLYOKE — An allegedly intoxicated driver crashed his car into another car on Northampton Street Sunday night, killing the vehicle’s driver and injuring two other occupants.

Police responded to the intersection of Northampton Street and Belvidere Avenue at around 7 p.m. after a car reportedly crossed into oncoming traffic and smashed head-on into another car. The victim’s car had three people in it, all of whom were taken to Holyoke Medical Center, where the driver, 40-year-old Victor Santiago of Springfield, died from his injuries.

At the scene, police arrested Jedd Flores, 25, of West Springfield, on charges of motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence of alcohol and operating under the influence of alcohol. 

Flores was arraigned in Holyoke District Court on Monday. He was held on $25,000 bail, according to the clerk’s office. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 21. 

In a statement, Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni expressed his sympathies to Santiago’s family. 

An investigation into the incident is ongoing. Gulluni’s office said that the Holyoke Police Department, Massachusetts State Police assigned to his office and the Hampden District Attorney’s Office’s Motor Vehicle Homicide Unit are all on the case.
