■A memorial stone with plaque and tree have been dedicated in honor of the late M. Foss Narum, Look Park superintendent from 1930 until his death in April 1970. The tree, which was a favorite species of the late superintendent, was given by Mr. and Mrs. William Narum of Northfield, Minn.

■Hawley Junior High School students collected 300-400 pounds of bottles, cans, papers, old tires, dead rats and other debris during an hour clean-up campaign along Damon Road. About 50 students forfeited sleeping late Saturday morning to walk and clean a 1½-mile stretch of refuse-covered road as part of Earth Week activities.

■A quick trip to a drive-up window usually garners a burger and fries, but shoppers soon will be able to order antibiotics, cold remedies and pain killers without getting out of their cars. The CVS/Pharmacy plans to open a store on Northampton Street in Easthampton that will include a drive-up prescription window — apparently the first in Hampshire County.

■A legal notice in yesterday’s Gazette announced a public auction in May for the Northampton Nursing Home, a 130-bed facility on Bridge Road. The auction was scheduled following a court order so that New England Health Care Employees Pension Fund can recover a judgment it won against the nursing home’s owner.

■After months of speculation and years of discussion, the University of Massachusetts is upgrading its football program. The school called a press conference for today at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough to announce that it will join the Mid-American Conference and upgrade from Championship Subdivision football into the Bowl Subdivision.

■Northampton police say that two masked thieves, possibly working with others, forced their way into Yes Computers at 196 Pleasant St. in Northampton at about 10:42 pm. Sunday. Within about two minutes, police said, the perpetrators filled three trash bags with dozens of laptops, iPods and iPads.
