Gov. Charlie Baker has endorsed Republican Hampshire County sheriff candidate David F. Isakson of South Hadley.
“David will bring a fresh outside perspective to the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Department,” Baker, a Republican, said in a prepared statement issued by Isakson’s campaign. “His firsthand experience working as a police officer out in the streets coupled with his experience working with the courts as the Hadley Police Department’s Court Officer, will prove to be a valuable asset as sheriff.”
Isakson, a part-time Hadley police officer, was unopposed in the Republican primary Sept. 8. In the Nov. 8 election, he faces Democrat Patrick J. Cahillane, of Northampton, the assistant superintendent of the Hampshjire County Jail and House of Correction.
“I am pleased to announce the endorsement of Governor Charlie Baker for my campaign for sheriff of Hampshire County. This is a great boost to my campaign,” Isakson said in the statement. “This campaign continues to be about making changes, progressive public safety and making the Sheriff’s Department a modern, pro-active and community involved facility committed to reducing crime, reducing recidivism and saving the taxpayers money.”
