On Wednesday at Forbes Library from 7-8:45 p.m., five speakers will discuss writing for those who are or have been incarcerated.
Speakers include Lois Ahrens, creator of Real Cost of Prison Project and Real Cost of Prisons Comix; Kempis Songster, an activist and poet; Daisy Hernandez and Tara McNamara from the Voices From Inside, a writing workshop for incarcerated and previously incarcerated women; and historian and educator Revan Schendler.
This weekend, Evie Litwok, of New York, will share her experience of incarceration and discuss activist work for criminal justice reform in two talks as part of the Congregation B’nai Israel “Second Annual Sandra Goldsmith Shabbaton for Social Justice,” an event named after a congregation member that dedicated her life to social work.
On Friday, Litwok will share her personnal experience with the talk “Queer, Jewish, Old and Solitary” at 7:30 p.m. at Lander Grinspoon Academy, 257 Prospect St., Northampton.
On Saturday, Litwok will discuss her organization “Bearing Witness to Mass Incarceration” at Congregation B’nai Israel, 253 Prospect St., Northampton.
