Stan Rosenberg has been a truly excellent senator, giving the district decades of long, hard work, good thinking and achievements valuable for us and all Massachusetts.
Until the release of the Ethics Committee report, I had expected to vote for him again, however much regretting his apparent errors of judgment. This report changed my voting plan, a difficult determination and even a painful one. With his resignation, he makes clear that he maintains a strong sense of his responsibility to the Senate and to his voters for his own conduct (โRosenberg to resign from Senate,โ May 4). He has a firm grasp of harm done.
In closing his career, Sen. Rosenberg has demonstrated who he is as a public servant โ taking responsibility, acting on that and apologizing. I hate to lose him.
In every experience, we get lessons. His colleagues and other officials can take this to heart, should they seriously err. Further, we voters must realize our responsibilities for thoughtful, honest evaluation.
Culpable candidates, at any level or partisanship, incumbent or not, who lack the courage of Stan Rosenberg, we voters can and should terminate.
