NORTHAMPTON – A Springfield man is facing a cocaine trafficking charge after being stopped in Northampton Sunday night, state police said.
Calvin Medina, 26, of Springfield, was driving a red Chevy Blazer with two passengers on Haydenville Road (Route 9) when the car was stopped by state Trooper Robert Berena at 10:12 p.m. for a motor vehicle violation, state police said. Northampton Police Officer Benjamin Beaver assisted with the stop.
State police said Medina was found to be driving on a learners permit, and both passengers, two 21-year old men from Springfield and Chicopee, respectively, had suspended licenses. Officers found 78 grams of cocaine in the vehicle during a subsequent search, state police said.
Medina has been charged with Class B trafficking (cocaine); conspiracy to violate drug law; unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle; and defective equipment.
Medina was arrested and then booked at the Northampton Barracks. Bail was set at $1,500.
