Thanks to Greta Jochem for her nice piece on LGBTQ literature at Amherst Regional. Her focus was rightly on the course, but I’d like to add another take on this. I met Sara Barber-Just a few years back and she told me all about the course. Then we talked about teaching for much longer. Course content is just one draw. The LGBTQ course wouldn’t amount to much without a teacher of Sara’s skill, creativity, passion and compassion. A great teacher makes any course a treat. I take my metaphorical hat off to a person who is first and foremost an exemplar of what a great educator looks like.
