PVIAC alpine skiing: Hampshire Regional girls close in on South Division title

The Hampshire Regional girls alpine ski team all but locked up the South Division title, Thursday.

The Raiders finished with a combined time of 111.79 seconds to win the South at the sixth PVIAC race of the season at Berkshire East in Charlemont.

Hampshire enters the final regular-season race in first place with 53 points. East Longmeadow is second with 46.

Summer Duda (26.94 seconds), Talya Gilman-Solomon (26.98) and Katelynn Dunn (27.42) finished 15th, 16th and 17th overall on giant slalom to lead Hampshire.

Corianna Delaney, of Frontier Regional, was second overall in 25.03. Ellie Mahoney, of Northampton was fourth (26.19) and Juliet Scott, of Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School, was ninth (26.60).

Jessica Garriepy, of Gateway Regional, was 12th (26.67), Sora Green, of Amherst Regional, was 14th (26.88) and Areia Heilman, of Frontier, was 20th (28.58).

Amherst Regional was second in the South (115.07). Frontier was fourth (118.15) and Northampton fifth (119.22) in the North.

Competing on the slalom course, the Hampshire Regional boys finished second (167.72) behind St. Mary’s (151.12) in the South.

PVCICS, which was coming off a first-place South finish on the giant slalom Tuesday, was third (176.80) on Thursday.

Northampton finished third (168.75) in the North. Gateway was fifth (173.91).

Edward Przybyla was fourth overall for Hampshire in 34.45. Zachary Ames, of Gateway, was eighth (34.80).

Northampton and PVCICS each had two skiers crack the top 20.

Nathaniel Jones was 11th (35.5) and Benjamin Delacour 13th (36.91) for Hamp. Sebastian English was 12th (35.83) and James Scott 19th (38.24) for PVCICS.

Przybyla’s teammate Dawson Kelly was 16th (37.16). Jake Thayer, of Gateway, was 17th (37.64), and Frontier Regional’s Ben Martino was 20th (38.62).

With one race left, Northampton is second behind Mohawk in the North. Hampshire is second to St. Mary’s in the South.

The PVIAC Individual Championships are set for Tuesday morning at Berkshire East. The first race at individuals will count as the last regular-season meet.
