I was startled to read that planning boards have adopted zoning rules that determine where marijuana dispensaries can be located are leading to the eviction of previous tenants from shops that have served our region for some time. Cannabis shops, which apparently cannot be established within 500 feet of any place of business that may attract youth, are forcing these businesses to move.
If this law, which I think is actually a good one, cannot permit both businesses to operate in adjoining spaces, why must cannabis shops take preference? I think I know the answer. The state is making good money from marijuana sales.
But will there be a different price to pay later?
