On Friday, Aug. 16, I was bicycling west on Bay Road toward the intersection with Maple Street. I was wearing a bright bike jersey and helmet, and have both front and rear flashers on my bike.

A woman in a white minivan ignored her stop sign on Maple Street and turned left on Bay Road in front of me, causing me to brake suddenly to avoid a collision. I clearly had the right of way.

I wish to remind drivers that our wonderful Pioneer Valley has many bicyclists who share our roads. Please, drivers, know the rules of the road and watch out for us so that we may all be able to traverse our roads safely.
