■St. Michael’s High School star Dave Nadeau hopes to become the first cager in his school’s history to surpass the 1,000-point mark in scoring as Nadeau and the Archangels travel to Mahar Regional this evening. The 6-foot, 3-inch center from Easthampton needs but nine points to climb over the 1,000-point mark which will culminate three years of hard work and patient development under head coach Bud Lucey.

■Miss Alice T. Hastings, Smith College librarian, is leaving the college. She will be succeeded in the position by Miss Billie Bozone, who has been serving as assistant librarian. Miss Hastings will be returning to Albany, New York, to be married.

■University of Massachusetts basketball player Marcus Camby is expected to be released from the hospital sometime this afternoon following an unexplained collapse prior to yesterday’s game against St. Bonaventure. “It looks like he’s going to be OK,” said UMass coach John Calipari.

■Volunteers who work for the emergency Cot Program will be getting more training to be better ready to handle the large numbers of homeless people using the church-based service. “We’re getting a tougher, needier population and that is creating some challenges for an essentially all-volunteer effort,” said Barry Bouthilette, chairman of the program.

■The choice of Robert L. Caret as the next president of the University of Massachusetts was well-received by students and faculty on the flagship campus Friday, though lamented by university officials in Maryland. “We’re licking our wounds today,” said William E. Kirwan, chancellor of the University System of Maryland on Friday.

■A brew pub in downtown Amherst for more than a decade could be relocating to University Drive by late summer. John Korpita, owner and manager of the Amherst Brewing Co., said Friday he is excited about the possible move of the restaurant from North Pleasant Street, where it has operated since 1997, to Newmarket Center at 10 University Drive.
