The Audubon Society has reported a variety of recent bird sightings in western Massachusetts.
A ruddy duck was on Ludlow Reservoir.
One northern shrike was seen in Northfield and another in Orange.
A flock of red crossbills was reported in Montague.
A snow goose, a pied-billed grebe, and lesser black-backed and Iceland gulls were at Turners Falls.
A white-fronted goose and seven northern shovelers, were seen in Southwick.
A white-fronted goose was found in Hadley.
A gadwall was seen in Sheffield and the red-headed woodpecker continues to be reported in Northampton.
Uncommon wintering species and returning arrivals included: American wigeon, green-winged teal, pintail, greater and lesser scaup, ring-necked duck, bufflehead and common loon.
Also black vulture, northern harrier, red-shouldered hawk, peregrine falcon, merlin, kestrel, killdeer, woodcock, barred owl, great horned owl and screech owl.
Plus belted kingfisher, yellow-bellied sapsucker, northern flicker, fish crow, red-breasted nuthatch, winter wren, eastern bluebird, hermit thrush, white-crowned sparrow, swamp sparrow, fox sparrow, rusty blackbird, pine siskin and purple finch.
