Thursday’s high schools: Northampton tops Holyoke for third straight win

Andy Grygorcewicz had 10 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks for the Northampton boys basketball team in a 55-40 win at Holyoke on Thursday night.

It’s the third straight win for the Blue Devils (7-3).

Elijah Davis led Northampton with 20 points.

Northampton’s defense did not allow a double-digit scorer and surrendered its lowest point total of the season.

The Blue Devils connected on eight 3-pointers, including three by Grygorcewicz.

Frontier Regional 62, Mohawk 41 — The Red Hawks went on the road and got a convincing win, giving them their second win in a row.

Carsten Carey scored 11 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for Frontier (3-6).

Myles Freeman added 12 points.

Minnechaug 75, South Hadley 64 — Calvin Bridges scored 29 points, but the Tigers lost at home.

Nate Poirier hit five 3-pointers and scored 19 points for South Hadley (6-2, 3-0 Suburban).

McCann Tech 79, Smith Vocational 55 — Luis Acosta had 17 points, Jayvon Cordova added 14 points, and Drew Brida (10 rebounds) and Travis Wolf each had 10 for the visiting Vikings (1-8, 0-8 Tri-County).

Hampshire 59, Granby 53 (OT) — Matt Babyak scored 24 points and the Raiders won on the road in overtime.

Greg Laroche added 10 points and Jacob Bihler scored 12 for Hampshire (7-2).

Zach Gorham led Granby (5-3) with 18 points, while Joe Desormier had nine.

Athol 61, Smith Academy 47 — Jack Zigmont hit three 3s and scored 17 points in a road loss.

Matt Bouley added 10 for the Falcons (1-8, 0-7 Hampshire).

Franklin Tech 62, Gateway 36 — Shane Mastello had 19 points, but the Gators (2-4, 0-4 Tri-County) lost on the road.

Girls basketball

Smith Academy 48, Pope Francis 39 — Mary Whalen had 14 points and 15 rebounds, as the Falcons (3-5) sank the Cardinals in Hatfield.

Hannah Rickert added 12 points, 11 rebounds, five steals and two blocked shots. Emma Kelly also had 12 points for Smith.

Gateway Regional 30, Smith Vocational 26 — Becca Herman had 14 points and Megan Wright added seven as the Gators (1-5) picked up their first win of the season in Northampton.

Sydney Cyr had nine points and 14 rebounds, while Stephanie Start (four points) pulled down 16 rebounds.

Belchertown 2, Chicopee Comp 1 — Cam Cass and Vaughn Gillen found the net in a road win for the Orioles.

Kyle Greene stopped 22 shots for Belchertown (4-5, 4-4 Fay-Wright).
