Bald Eagle in South Deerfield
Route 116, South Deerfield

You know how your brain quietly processes your environment as you drive a car? One Sunday in early March my brain’s dialogue sounded like this: “Car turning off. Trees. Curve in road. No cars entering from the side. Oh, look at that, a bald eagle. Trees. Curve in…BALD EAGLE?!!!” The eagle was perched on a low limb right at the edge of Route 116. It flew across the road to perch higher up on a dead branch. I had to stand in an open area where I was buffeted by the wind as I tried to capture an image without the benefit of a tripod. I used a medium length telephoto lens on my DSLR.
