So, the Northampton City Council voted to transfer $500,000 of taxpayers’ money to a private company to subsidize their profit-making development of rental apartments at the vacant St. John Cantius Church that many of those who contributed to those funds through their property taxes cannot afford to rent. It is about time that someone, preferably the Massachusetts Attorney General, investigate the legality of this government-sanctioned use of public funds.
