The Northampton boys basketball team won its first game of the season, 58-51, in double overtime at Agawam Monday night.

Henry Doherty’s (12 points) offensive rebound and putback sent the game to overtime for the Blue Devils.

In the second overtime, Elijah Davis (16 points), Hamp’s leading scorer, grabbed the tip and went in for a layup to give Hamp an early lead.

Davis followed with a 3-pointer later in the frame that put the Brownies (1-1) away.

Sophomore Nicholas Heafey scored eight points while Mike McCarthy added seven points and 11 rebounds.

Girls basketball

Northampton 53, Shepard Hill 47 — Amanda Mieczkowski sank six free throws in the last two minutes to seal a road win for the Blue Devils.

The freshman had nine points and four assists in her debut.

Lauraine Joensen led Northampton (1-0) with 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Megan McCarthy had 12 points and 10 boards.

The game was tied at 43 with two minutes left.

“We did a good job playing defense down the stretch,” Northampton coach Perry Messer said.
