She took the time—Support Sciarra for mayor

I am writing to support the candidacy of Gina-Louise Sciarra for mayor of Northampton. I voted for her last time and plan to vote for her again. What is different about this time is that I have spent time with her over an issue that is near and dear to me.

Columbariums. I am trying to encourage the city to invest in a columbarium structure to be housed at Spring Grove Cemetery. In so doing, I, with my City Councilor Rachel Maiore, met with Mayor Sciarra and DPW Director Donna LaScaleia to discuss the possibility of this project. A columbarium is a cemetery structure that houses cremated remains. Rather than an entire plot being devoted to an urn, it instead is placed in the columbarium. Prior to the meeting in the Mayor’s Office, Maiore cautioned me that we probably would only be there for half an hour. Because of the mayor’s interest, we met for an hour and a half! She was kind and truly interested. She asked me questions about the process of procuring a columbarium.

I do believe the city will eventually have a columbarium option for our citizens to consider. Sciarra has the high level of professionalism in serving as our mayor that we need, as well as the knowledge to continue to help Northampton/Florence/Leeds grow into the future.
