I’ve lived in Northampton for the majority of my life. During that time, I’ve been an enthusiastic supporter of fewer than a handful of politicians. Quaverly Rothenberg, our current Ward 3 councilor, is proactive, egalitarian, informed, and well-spoken. She is radically, consistently available to those living in Northampton, reads exhaustively to learn about issues, and takes positions that can only be understood as unpopular to those who are not fully aware of the suffering in this city.

For example, special ed was initially denied to my daughter at JFK school, after she was on an IEP for several years in elementary school. I paid for an outside eval, but was told they only listened to threats of legal action, whatever the evidence. I retained a lawyer, and we negotiated and got her IEP continued. Most could not and cannot afford to do that.

This is exactly the type of issue that Quaverly consistently helps her constituents with. As a parent and a health care professional, I’ve seen enough to know what a gem we have in Quaverly. I can only hope she gifts us with her presence and activism for many years to come.
