Easthampton, MA – Our beautiful mother, Beverly Alice Bashaw Viele passed away on September 17, 2025 at age 98 at the Hospice of the Fisher Home in Amherst, Massachusetts. She enjoyed a long and full life and had few regrets.
Beverly was born on September 30, 1926, and grew up in Stamford, Connecticut. She spent her adult life and raised her three daughters in Norwalk, Connecticut. Her beloved husband, Burton Kenyon Viele predeceased her in 2000.
Beverly will be remembered for creating an active and vivacious life filled with fun and uncommon grace. She enjoyed many happy seasons with friends at Roton Point Beach Club in Rowayton, CT. Bev was especially passionate about tennis which she played into her eighties, and also treasured playing bridge, watercolor painting, and flower arranging. Her involvement with the United Church of Rowayton was also very important to her.
In her professional life, Beverly held several office administration positions including lengthy tenures at both the New York TImes and the Pitney Bowes Corporation.
Family and friends were the center of Beverly’s busy life, and she held her loved ones close. She created beautiful family celebrations and traditions becoming our beloved matriarch and leaving a legacy of love.
Bevie is survived by her three daughters: Claudia Viele, Sheila Sewall, and Victoria Weed; sons-in-law Stephen Sewall and James Weed; six grandchildren: Omen Viele, Adam, Brian and Jackson Sewall, Ethan and Emma Weed; and four great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at the United Church of Rowayton in Norwalk, CT at 11:00 AM on November 1, 2025.
