The Betty Allen Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, is thrilled to share some exciting news with the Northampton community: work has officially begun to make our beloved Clapp House fully accessible to all!

This treasured historic home has long been a place of gathering, remembrance, and community spirit. Under the leadership of Chapter Regent Denise Gosselin, and with the guidance of an architect experienced in historic properties, the chapter has developed a thoughtful renovation plan that both preserves the homeโ€™s unique character and removes barriers for members and guests.

The renovation includes much-needed plumbing and electrical updates, sidewalk development, and accessible entryways โ€” ensuring that everyone can enjoy this historic space for years to come. Thanks to a generous Community Preservation Grant from the city of Northampton and the chapterโ€™s own $20,000 fundraising commitment, this vision is becoming a reality.

Members and friends gathered joyfully on Sept. 13 to celebrate this milestone, and construction officially began on Sept. 30 under the direction of Mowry and Schmidt, Inc. This project is a true celebration of our shared values: honoring history while opening doors โ€” literally and figuratively โ€” to all. We canโ€™t wait to welcome the community into a Clapp House that is both historic and inclusive.
