As the president tests how quickly our democracy can be dismantled, we are in profound need of effective leaders in local and state government and throughout civil society — in particular, we need leaders who are willing to tell the truth and take action even when it’s uncomfortable.
Jill Brevik is such a leader, and we are incredibly fortunate in Amherst’s District 1 to have her on the ballot. Among other accomplishments, Brevik has organized many community events bringing together people from all backgrounds to call for an end to the starvation of Palestinian people and other atrocities in Gaza. That is very challenging work, yet Brevik stepped into that role without hesitation because she understood it simply needed to be done. I am grateful that she is willing to bring such clarity and competence to the work of local governance, where she supports participatory budgeting and prioritizing our schools. I urge you to join me in voting for Brevik on Nov. 4.
