After nine years as the head coach of the South Hadley girls soccer team, Rich Marjanski is retiring. The Tigers announced through their team Instagram account last month that Marjanski has decided to hang up his whistle for good.
South Hadley sent their longtime coach out with a bang, winning the Western Massachusetts Class B championship this season in a thrilling 2-1 victory against Belchertown.
With a 13-8-1 record in 2025, Marjanski also led the Tigers to a deep run in the Division 4 State Tournament, coming up short with a loss in the Round of 8.
Over the years, South Hadley has consistently been one of the better teams in Hampshire County under Marjanski, compiling a 144-30-8 overall record.
Along the way, Marjanski and the Tigers won five Western Mass. titles in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022, and 2025.
The 2019 season was extra special for South Hadley and Marjanski, which finished an undefeated season by beating Stoneham to raise theirย first-ever Division 3 state championship banner.
Marjanski was also named the Western Mass. and All New England Small School Coach of the Year after his first season in 2017.
Three Tigers also surpassed 100 career points under Marjanski’s stewardship.
With six trophies won during his tenure, Marjanski, without question, left a positive mark on the program.
