The Amherst girls basketball team extended its season-opening winning streak to four after downing Monson, 43-14, on Friday night.

The Hurricanes haven’t lost so far this season (4-0) after not winning a game in the entirety of their 2024-25 slate.

On Friday, Iman Skota’s 11 points paced Amherst, while Aliya Morales-Fernandez (six points), Keira Cunniffe and Jordan Dunbar-Robinson (five points each) produced on offense as well.

The ‘Canes will welcome Ware to Amherst on Tuesday, Dec. 23 for a pre-Christmas clash of the unbeatens. The Indians have also gone 4-0 to start the year.

Smith Voc 51, Turners Falls 21 — Nine different players earned points for the Vikings in their blowout against the Thunder.

Ainsley Chrzanowski tallied 11 points as Smith Voc’s top scorer. Savannah Fredette (nine points) and Sofia Zina (eight points) also played well for the victors.

The Vikings led, 32-12, at halftime, before sealing the win to move to 3-1 overall.

Belchertown 54, Westfield 28 — Aubrey Klingensmith caught fire from beyond the arc in this one to lead the Orioles to their second win in a row.

Klingensmith totaled six 3-pointers versus the Bombers, en route to a 23-point performance. Morghan Litz was sharp from the field as well, finishing with 15 points.

Belchertown (2-1) was in total control from the jump, leading 31-9, at the midway mark.

Pittsfield 60, South Hadley 53 — In a rematch of last season’s Western Mass. tournament Class B final, the Generals came out on top once again.

The Tigers trailed by nearly 20 points at halftime (38-20), but fought back in quarters three and four to make it a close result.

Three South Hadley players reached double figures in Kate Phillips (17 points) and Cara Dean and Olivia Athas (16 points each).

Pittsfield won last season’s Western Mass. championship, 52-47.

Renaissance 62, Holyoke 46 — The Purple Knights sank seven 3-pointers, but it still wasn’t enough in their second straight loss.

Julianna Pirela led all players with four 3s and poured in six more baskets to finish with 24 points for Holyoke. Jaelyn Colon and Genesis Rivera each concluded with seven points behind Pirela for the Purple Knights.

Holyoke dropped to 0-2 following the home loss.

Northampton 53, South High 42 — Free throws were the name of the game in this one as both teams attempted a combined 47 shots from the charity stripe, with the Blue Devils sinking 18-of-26 (69%) to take their second straight win.

Emme Calkins went 9-of-10 from the free-throw line and topped out among Northampton scorers with 17 points. Anna Oravec made seven shots from the field for 16 points while Keira Cole (six points) hit all four free throws attempted.

Northampton went up 26-20 at halftime and hung on to improve to 3-1.

Boys basketball

Smith Academy 58, Franklin Tech 55 — The Falcons flew back from an early deficit and stole a victory against the Eagles.

Down 36-21 at halftime, Smith outscored Franklin Tech in the final two quarters, including a stellar fourth frame in which it managed 21 points to the Eagles’ six, to improve to 3-1 on the season.

Swimming

Easthampton 99, Chicopee 58 — The Eagles turned in a sparkling performance against the Pacers in their first meet of the season on Friday.

Easthampton won all but one event (500 free) in the road victory.

Allie St. Pierre took first place in the 200 free, Karolina Robak won the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 butterfly, while Tellyn Kelly claimed first in the 100 free and the 100 breaststroke for the Eagles.

All three Easthampton relay squads secured wins too.
