SHUTESBURY — With the new Shutesbury Public Library ready to open Jan. 10, the M.N. Spear Memorial Library’s last day in operation was Dec. 24.
Library officials recently notified the public that library services will be unavailable for about three weeks, allowing for the collection and furnishings to move to the new, 4,400-square foot, $8.98 million building at 66 Leverett Road, about a mile away from the 1902 building at 10 Cooletville Road.
Library Director Mary Anne Antonellis told the Library Building Committee at its Dec. 18 meeting that the move should begin on Dec. 27, with volunteers helping out every day.
Some furniture and supplies have already been moved into the new building which has been under construction since August 2024.
During the period when no library services are available, staff will also not be accessible, though all virtual services can be used with a library card.
The book drop will also not be available. Items from the Shutesbury library can be returned when the new building opens, while items belonging to other libraries should be brought to them or other area libraries.
