The war on Iran had nothing to do with Iran’s nuclear weapon program. In October 2003, the recently-assassinated Ali Khamenei declared nuclear weapons contrary to Islamic principles. What is unfolding across West Asia is part of a larger strategy to eliminate resistance and advance a colonial project that will ultimately achieve the goal of a Greater Israel and end any prospects for Palestinian freedom and an end to occupation.

Without the support of the American people, the U.S. and Israel — two nuclear powers —have launched a major military attack on non-nuclear Iran and started a massive regime change war of choice, plunging the Middle East and the world into instability and chaos. It is a war that is likely to embroil the U.S. in a long, unwinnable conflict that is bound to disrupt the global economy and have disastrous consequences for American livelihoods.
The war on Iran would have never happened if the Western world had not allowed the genocide in Gaza to take place with total impunity. It would not have been attempted if there had been accountability for Israeli war crimes and crimes against humanity. The Iran war is being facilitated by the West’s inaction and complicity in the Gaza genocide and its military, financial, and diplomatic support for the apartheid state of Israel and its right-wing extremist government.

The U.S. and Europe are largely to blame for this aggression against a sovereign nation. By flouting international law during the past two-and-a-half years of an ongoing genocide, they have emboldened Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and allowed him to take a gamble on a war with Iran, knowing full well that the U.S. and European nations would fall in line.

It is distressing to watch the U.S. quickly transform into a mercenary force used by Netanyahu to advance Israeli expansionist policies and regional supremacy. There are moments where one must scream and speak up loudly against war, militarism, and imperialism. It is what we have to do right now.
