Until Donald Trump provides evidence of voter fraud, newspapers and other media must refrain from statements that support his lies.

With this in mind, it was discouraging to read “A federal judge has dismissed a United States Department of Justice lawsuit that was seeking Bay State voter rolls, as the Trump administration seeks to rid federal elections of voter fraud,” (“US judge tosses DOJ suit,” Gazette, April 11).

Voter fraud is alleged by Trump only. It is not a proven fact, and Trump has never come close to providing believable evidence of such fraud. To state simply that the Trump administration is attempting to rid federal elections of fraud, without providing further evidence or context, implies that the Trump administration’s view is accurate.

Donald Trump understands that repeating lies incessantly will fool a certain percentage of people into believing that those lies are true. In publishing the Boston Herald article of April 11, the Gazette was complicit in this deception. The Gazette’s readers deserve much better.
