HOLYOKE — The Hampden County District Attorney’s Office said Monday that Holyoke police arrested a city resident April 22 in connection with a fatal April 18 shooting on Sergeant Street. A search remains ongoing for a second person involved in the homicide.

Delani Rodriguez, 21, faces a charge of murdering 31-year-old Robert Abreu last month. She was held without bail at her arraignment in Holyoke District Court on April 23. Her alleged accomplice, 22-year-old Daniel Medina, also of Holyoke, remains at large and is wanted for murder, according to the DA’s office.

Holyoke Police responded to reports of a gunshot and an injured victim at 139 Sargeant St., at 5:39 p.m. April 18, where officers found Abreu suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to Baystate Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

“Abreu was approached and assaulted while seated in his vehicle, at which point a firearm was discharged, striking him,” Hampden County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement. “Following the shooting, Rodriguez and Medina fled the area. Investigators later recovered a firearm and additional evidence during the execution of search warrants.”

Members of the Hampden County Narcotics Task Force and the Hampden County SAFE Unit located Rodriguez in Springfield where she was “taken into custody without incident” on April 22, according to Gulluni’s office.

Investigators have identified Medina as the individual who fired the gun during the altercation.

The Hampden District Attorney’s Office urges anyone with information regarding Medina’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit at 413-505-5993.
