The Amherst girls lacrosse team dominated its Western Mass Class B semifinal round matchup against Pope Francis on Saturday night, with the offense paving the way to a 17-4 victory.

Kiko Bhowmik was an unstoppable force for the Hurricanes on attack, scoring five goals in the win. Along the way, the senior recorded the 200th goal of her career, capping off a huge night.

Claire Kennedy joined in on the fun as well, tallying four goals of her own for Amherst. The milestone performances continued in the victory, with Kennedy earning her 100th career point on Saturday night.

The Hurricanes got out to an 8-2 lead at halftime, leaning on the defense to maintain its success down the stretch. Eden Polak was great between the pipes, saving 11 shots and keeping her team comfortably in front.

With the win, Amherst moves on to the Western Mass Class B Finals to take on No. 2 Belchertown. The matchup is set for Tuesday, May 19, at 7 p.m. at Springfield Central.

Boys lacrosse

Amherst 8, Westfield 6 โ€” Sawyer Ferro paved the way for a narrow victory for the Hurricanes to end the regular season, scoring four goals and adding a pair of assists.

Nathan Desbien also had a big night offensively, recording a hat trick of his own. Jason Kim had a busy night between the pipes, tallying 16 saves in the win.

Softball

Joseph Case 7, Hampshire 0 โ€” The Raiders struggled in multiple facets in a tough matchup, breaking a four-game winning streak.

At the plate, the team couldn’t find consistent offense, with Mariah Pacinella tallying the only extra-base hit of the night. The woes carried into the field, with three errors allowing four unearned runs to score.

Baseball

Greenfield 4, South Hadley 3 โ€” The Tigers seventh inning comeback attempt came up just short, with two runs being surrendered in the third inning making the difference.

Ryan Netkovick led the team offensively, going 3-for-3 with a run scored. Matthew Butler came in to pitch with two outs in the third inning, throwing 4 1/3 innings while allowing just one run to score.

Baseball

Monson 9, Amherst 2 โ€” The Hurricanes couldn’t surmount a comeback after falling down 6-0 at the conclusion of the first inning.

Read Guidera led the team offensively, going 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Gus Garrett-Peltier had a double of his own in the loss, also tallying a run scored.

Girls lacrosse

Belchertown 18, Chicopee 9 โ€” The Orioles had a huge night offensively to win their Western Mass Class B semifinal round matchup. Aubrey McCain led the way with five goals in the win, adding on three assists.

Lia Pikul also scored five goals for Belchertown, with two assists of her own. Lily Tellier and Piper Laurenzo each tallied a hat trick, with Shannon Fuller rounding out the big night with two goals and an assist.

Softball

Granby 16, West Springfield โ€” The Rams needed just five innings to explode for double-digit runs. It took just eight hits to put up the team’s 16 runs, with Ellie Szlosek’s 2-for-2 night featuring two RBIs, two runs scored and a walk leading the way.

Meredith Bartosz was lights out in the circle, throwing a five-inning complete-game shutout where she allowed just two hits and struck out seven batters.
