- The fiftieth anniversary of American Independence will be celebrated at Northampton on Tuesday next, under the auspices of the Selectmen of the Town. The committee appointed by them have made arrangements for commemorating the return of this interesting anniversary in a manner worthy of the event, and of the day which gave it birth.ย

- Patrick Lyons is taking down the Barger house at Bridge Street and Glenwood Avenue, where the Standard Oil company is to put up a gasoline station, for which a permit was recently obtained by James Barger and then transferred to the Standard Oil company.ย
- Ung Fong of New York City, formerly of Northampton, visited friends here today, coming from Holyoke, where he attended the graduation of his son, Hong Wee Wu, from the high school there. Mr. Fong, formerly in the laundry business here, now conducts a restaurant on Broadway at 48th Street.ย

- Recreation leaders at the cityโs playgrounds this summer include Dave Tewhill and Annelis Olandersson at Kearney Field and Jack Czerapowicz and Elizabeth Morse at Arcanum Field.ย
- A little more than a week after schools closed in Northampton, 500 students went back to classes today. It was the 16th session of the six-week Smith-Northampton Summer School held at Northampton High School. Students may take up to three of the 51 courses which are offered for a variety of reasons โ remedial needs, enrichment, or just plain fun.ย
