I’m all for public protests, from union picketing to rallies opposing authoritarian politicians, and I understand the anger and frustration with the defense industry. But the recent doxxing of L3Harris employees and related vandalism was way out of line.
Carrying signs highlighting the salary of the company CEO or the tax breaks given by the city of Northampton — that’s fair game. But exposing neighbors trying to make a living? Inexcusable. Damaging a local business such as Serio’s Pharmacy, a community pillar for decades that has nothing to do with L3Harris, including tearing out the store’s flower boxes? Disgraceful.
And the anti-war activist telling the Gazette she “applauds” and “appreciates” this? Please. What a terrible way to rally support for a cause. This behavior and sentiment do just the opposite.
Disruptive behavior to draw attention to injustice has had its place throughout our history, and still does, but these actions were disheartening and disappointing, even for those who can get behind a little civil disobedience.
