DORIAN FILL

Northampton, MA – Dorian B. Fill, 78, passed away on June 27, 2026. Born on June 28, 1947, in Quebec, Canada, Dorian was the beloved daughter of the late Walter and Audrey Beattie.

Dorian dedicated her life to caring for others. She earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from Greenfield Community College, her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Fitchburg State University and later completed her Master of Science in Nursing Administration at the University of Massachusetts.

Nursing was never simply a profession to Dorian-it was her calling. She devoted more than four decades to healthcare, including working at the Northampton State Hospital, the V.A. in Leeds and the Smith College Infirmary before serving as Nurse Manager of the Psychiatric Unit at Noble Hospital from 2006 until her retirement in 2018. She had a deep passion for psychology and mental health, believing that the heart of nursing was helping people through life’s most difficult moments with compassion, dignity, and understanding. She led with integrity, mentored countless nurses, and was a trusted advocate for both her patients and her staff. Those who worked alongside her remember her as a thoughtful leader whose kindness, wisdom, and dedication left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Outside of nursing, Dorian had an enormous heart for animals. She especially loved dogs and cats and never hesitated to open her home and heart to animals in need. Over the years, she rescued and cared for many beloved pets, giving countless stray and abandoned animals the love, safety, and family they deserved. She shared a special bond with her beloved dog, Jasmine, as well as the many cherished feline companions who brought her joy throughout her life.

Above all else, Dorian treasured her family. She shared 48 wonderful years of marriage with her devoted husband and best friend, Fred Fill. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. One of Dorian’s greatest joys was spending the winter months with Fred at their home in Ormond Beach, Florida, where they embraced the sunshine, welcomed family and friends, and enjoyed the peaceful life they created together.

She is survived by her loving husband, Fred Fill of Northampton; her daughter, Elizabeth Pitts and her husband, Richard, of Hatfield; her beloved grandchildren, Garret Pitts of Hatfield and Taylor Pitts of Holyoke; along with many extended family members, dear friends, former colleagues, and all whose lives were touched by her kindness and compassion.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Sharron LaPointe, Wanda Beattie, and Walter Beattie. Dorian will be remembered not only for her accomplishments, but for the way she made people feel-seen, cared for, and valued. Whether she was caring for a patient, mentoring a fellow nurse, comforting a friend in need, or rescuing an abandoned animal, she gave her whole heart. Her legacy of love, selflessness, and empathy will live on through the many lives she touched and will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. Donations may be made in her memory to any local animal rescue or shelter. At the wishes of the family, services are private.
