Vote for Markey on Sept. 1st

One moment from last Thursday’s U.S. Senate debate that stayed with me was Senator Markey’s defense of transgender young people.

At a time when politicians across the country are using vulnerable children as political targets, Markey was clear that trans kids deserve protection, support, and the same rights as everyone else. He spoke about his Trans Bill of Rights and rejected the idea that Democrats should scapegoat young people for an election loss.

That kind of clarity matters now more than ever. Congressman Moulton’s scripted apology doesn’t change the truth, which is that when the moment came to stand with a marginalized community facing relentless attacks, Congressman Moulton chose a cheap political shot instead. Who will he throw under the bus next?

Markey showed compassion, conviction and a willingness to act. Massachusetts should continue to be represented by a senator who does not back away when human civil rights are on the line. I’m voting for Ed Markey on Sept. 1.
