I remain perplexed by the Gazette’s decision to provide zero coverage of the US Open. The US Open is one of the four Grand Slam tournaments globally, regarded as a premier event in the US and worldwide. According to ESPN and USTA, both tennis viewership and participation in the US are on the rise, with this year’s tournament setting attendance records. Surprisingly, recent Gazette editions failed to mention the tournament at all. In terms of current national coverage, the Gazette prioritizes golf, the NFL, and MLB, none of which are currently hosting any major tournaments or series. While I generally prefer local topics, with respect national coverage, I hope our editors remember that there is more their readership’s interests than football, baseball, and golf. The wires and other news outlets provide ample coverage of tennis, and there are numerous compelling and newsworthy stories to captivate your readers.
