Week No. 2 of the PVIAC indoor track season wrapped up Sunday afternoon at Smith College in Northampton, with five Hampshire County teams in action.

The Hampshire Regional boys and girls teams combined for a perfect 4-0 outing, as did Frontier. The Amherst boys raced to a 2-0 record while the girls split 1-1, and South Hadley girls picked up two wins as well. Holyoke went winless on Sunday, but saw several strong individual performances nonetheless.

The indoor season now takes a two-week holiday break before resuming with meet No. 3 on Sunday, Jan. 7.

Here’s how each team fared and who had impressive outings in the second meet this winter:

Girls results

Amherst

Dual meet scores (early): Amherst 34, Putnam 25; Westfield 52, Amherst 25

Highlights: Ololara Baptiste turned in a third-place finish in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.95 seconds, and Ruby Austin was close behind running nearly a half second faster than her seed time (8.08) to take home fifth. Ella Austin impressed in the 300-meter dash as her time of 45.44 was plenty good for third in the race.

Claire Kennedy (3:41.89) earned third place in the 1,000-meter run, while the Amherst 4×400 relay team took second with a time of 4:37.72. 

In the field events, Brooklyn Court’s long jump of 13 feet, 7.5 inches was good enough for sixth place – the only Amherst field participant on Sunday.

Frontier

Dual meet scores (early): Frontier 95, Baystate Academy 0; Frontier 78, Mohawk Trail 17

Highlights: Nicole Plasse sprinted an 8.14 in the 55-meter dash to cross the line seventh, while Josie Fosnot (47.03) and Madelyn Antes (47.39) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 300-meter dash. Plasse then went on to take fourth in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:57.12. Una Millette (ninth, 2:01.6) joined Plasse in the top 10 of that race.

In the 1,000-meter run, Phoebe Radner crossed the line in 3:45.72 to snag eighth place, and teammate Sasha Malo was just behind in 3:48.91 – good for ninth place. The long distance runs are where Frontier separated heavily from its competitors. 

Addison Morrey (third, 6:04.39) and Leah Gump (fourth, 6:11.46) had great days in the mile, then Gump turned around and impressively shaved five seconds off her seed time in the two mile, taking second with a time of 12:50.29. Liv Christensen (13:46.30) grabbed sixth place.

Hannah Davis cleared the 55-meter hurdles and crossed the line in 10.11 to give her the lone Frontier first-place finish on Sunday, and the Redhawks 4×400 relay team (4:43.17) grabbed fourth place.

In the field events, Maia Christensen’s best high jump of 4-8 earned her third place, and Davis and Antes tied for sixth with a 4-2 clearance. Davis and Plasse continued their big days in the long jump, leaping 14-1.25 and 13-11, good for fourth and fifth place.

Shot put was dominated by Redhawks, as three members of the team finished seventh or better. Lilly Novak (third, 28-1), Micky McCarthy (sixth, 26-3), and Abbigayle Grover (seventh, 25-9.5) cracked the top 10 for Frontier.

South Hadley 

Dual meet scores (early): South Hadley 63, Mohawk Trail 26; South Hadley 55, Pope Francis 31

Highlights: Abigail Gelinas cruised to a first-place finish in the 55-meter dash, crossing the line in 7.79. Allison Fleury joined Gelinas (8.14) in the top 10, grabbing eighth place just a hair behind Frontier’s Nicole Plasse. Gelinas and Fleury didn’t stop there. Gelinas then won the 300-meter dash with a time of 44.39, and Fleury took home ninth in 48.88.

In the 600-meter run, Emma Levreault (1:54.83) eased into a second place finish, ahead of the next finisher by nearly two full seconds. Rachel Yabra finished eighth, crossing the line in 2:01.07. Quinlin Cook (3:35.67) earned second place in the 1,000-meter run, knocking nearly 12 seconds off of her initial seed time. South Hadley’s 4×400 relay team grabbed third place with a time of 4:42.63.

Elsewhere, Mikayla Weaver finished ninth in the high jump, and Gelinas took her two first-place sprint finishes to the field for the long jump, where she fell one inch shy of another top spot – jumping 14-7, good for second place. Levreault (26-11.25) took home fifth in the shot put to round out the morning for the Tigers.

Holyoke

Dual meet scores (late): Chicopee Comp 68, Holyoke 23; Chicopee 51, Holyoke 34

Highlights: Yasani Thompson continued her hot start to the season, once again winning the 55-meter dash, this time in 7.55 seconds. In the 600-meter run, Julia Guzik (fifth, 1:56.58) cracked the top five, while Jaylene Moquin earned sixth place in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 10.5 – a half-step behind the fifth-place finisher. Siobhan Armstrong also finished in the top 10 of the race, crossing the line with a time of 10.97.

Holyoke’s 4×400 relay team (4:36.29) ran well and grabbed second place to cap off the track events.

In the field, Moquin high jumped 4-4 to tie for sixth, and Veronica Colon and Kayshaly Garcia just barely missed out on the top 10 in the long jump, finishing 11th and 12th, respectively. Garcia also earned sixth place in the shot put with a distance of 23-4.5.

Hampshire

Dual meet scores (late): Hampshire 73, Greenfield 18; Hampshire 88, Hampden Charter West 0

Highlights: Charlotte Letendre ran a 8.42 in the 55-meter dash to cross the line eighth, then turned around and grabbed seventh in the 300-meter dash with a time of 47.77 to get the scoring started for the Raiders. Audrey Perrone also squeaked into the top 10 in the 300-meter dash, finishing 10th in 48.31.

Natalie Dunlap (sixth, 1:58.13) and Lucy Skawski (tenth, 2:09.21) had strong days in the 600-meter run and Keegan Butler was tremendous in the 1,000-meter run. Butler took home first place with a time of 3:31.61 to stand as the lone Hampshire first-place finisher on Sunday.

In the mile, Kathleen Barry dazzled with a 5:46.84 to take home second place, just one second behind first. Kaylee Rooney (6:59.13) also ran the mile, grabbing eighth place in the race. Estella Steffenhagen crossed the line in 14:13.52, which was good enough for third place in the two mile.

Rachel O’Connell (10.60) finished seventh in the 55-meter hurdles, and Hampshire’s 4×400 relay team finished third with a time of 4:41.57.

In the field events, Rylee Joseph jumped 13-1.75 in the long jump to bring home ninth, and Ashley Cortis threw 24-2.5 in the shot put to earn a third-place finish. Ryanne Dubay (ninth, 22-4.5) joined Cortis in the top 10.

Boys results

Amherst

Dual meet scores (early): Amherst 57, Putnam 19; Amherst 54, Westfield 34

Highlights: Brendan Camphor just barely missed out on sixth place, but took home seventh with a 7.13 in the 55-meter dash. Miles Jeffries (39.60) grabbed fourth place in the 300-meter dash, and Miguel Pinero-Jacome absolutely crushed the rest of the field in the 600-meter run. Pinero-Jacome crossed the finish line with a time of 1:27.06, over five seconds faster than any other participant. Patrick Staudenmayer (1:37.28) came in sixth as well. In the 1,000-meter run, Yoh Morita (3:03.14) grabbed sixth place, and Calvin Cusick (12:12.27) took home eighth in the two mile.

Nobody kept up with the Amherst 4×400 relay team, as it finished in 3:37.53 – nearly 13 seconds ahead of the next closest team.

In the shot put, two Hurricanes finished in the top three, with Logan Alfandari throwing a whopping 52-0.75 to give him first place by a landslide. Mohina Krouch finished third with 39-7.25.

Frontier

Dual meet scores (early): Frontier 91, Baystate Academy 3; Frontier 67, Mohawk Trail 28

Highlights: Ben Cachiguango (6.92) took home third place in the 55-meter dash in an intense race where the top three were separated by just five-hundredths of a second. Jack Storm crossed the line sixth in the race with a time of 7.13. Cachiguango then participated in the 300-meter dash, where his time of 40.17 gave him fifth place. 

In the 600-meter run, Aidan Valderrama (1:32.69) impressed with a second-place finish, and Augustus Radner (1:38.86) cruised past the finish line in eighth place. Amory Maxey took home second place in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:56.69, and Charles Dennis (fourth, 5:02.79) and Oliver Brown (ninth, 5:18.87) each placed in the top 10 in the mile.

Maxey (11:26.26) also competed in the two mile, where he was one of three Frontier racers in the top 10. Adam Paul (ninth, 12:51.08) and Caleb Libby (tenth, 13:15.90) joined Maxey.

Cachiguango returned for the 55-meter hurdles, and earned yet another top-five finish, crossing the line in 9.14 which was good enough for third place. Ben Caron’s time of 9.41 earned him sixth place. Frontier’s 4×400 relay team (3:53.78) came in fourth.

Elsewhere, Valderrama jumped 5-6 in the high jump to take home third, and Oliver Brown’s 5-4 gave him eighth. In the long jump, Storm grabbed sixth place with a 17-11.

South Hadley

Dual meet scores (early): Mohawk Trail 45, South Hadley 44; Pope Francis 44, South Hadley 39

Highlights: The Tigers had a tough day Sunday with two very close losses, but there were strong individual performances all around.

Nathenal McMains grabbed 10th in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:40.08, more than seven seconds better than his original seed time, and Nathan Hutchinson ran a 2:57.07 in the 1,000-meter run which earned him a fourth-place finish.

Hutchinson returned in the mile to turn in a second-place 4:55.91, edging out the next finisher by two-hundredths of a second. His big day continued in the two mile, where he took home seventh place with a time of 11:27.82. 

Jameson Webber cracked the top 10 in the 55-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 9.43 to earn seventh. The South Hadley 4×400 relay team slid down to ninth with a time of 4:10.31.

Holyoke

Dual meet scores (late): Chicopee Comp 48, Holyoke 34; Chicopee 55, Holyoke 31

Highlights: Sophomore Ryan Kennedy ran a 1:35.40 in the 600-meter run, which earned him a second-place finish on Sunday afternoon. Byron Guadalupe also ran well in that race, crossing the line ninth with a time of 1:41.78. 

In the mile, Elijah Quinn (4:49.65) ran a terrific race, as the senior finished in third place. Teammate Pablo Tapion joined Quinn in the top 10, turning in a 5:19.67 which was good enough for ninth place.

Matthew Dumoulin grabbed fifth place in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.94, and the Holyoke 4×400 relay team turned in a fourth-place finish with a time of 3:51.57.

Jaybriel Rivera Soto (10th, 16-6) snuck into the top 10 in the long jump, and the Purple Knights put together a strong showing in the shot put – led by Jaden Diaz. Diaz threw 44-6.5, earning him a first-place finish on Sunday. Behind him in sixth place was Lyshad Wilson (32-11.5).

Hampshire

Dual meet scores (late): Hampshire 58, Greenfield 35; Hampshire 75, Hampden Charter West 0

Highlights: Jaiden Kudelka finished second in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.72, and fifth in the 300-meter dash (40.12) to lead the way for the Raiders early on. Freshman Aidan Conklin impressed with an eighth-place finish in the 300, crossing the line in 40.64.

Hampshire dominated the 600-meter run, led by Nick Brisson, who earned first place with a time of 1:30.25. Another freshman contributed in a big way for the Raiders as well, as Owen Cubi’s time of 1:36.17 slid him into third place. Gavin Dafonte (3:07.51) earned sixth place in the 1,000-meter run, while Teagan Noel (3:23.69) came in 10th.

In the mile, Tim Cahill (5:01.52) and Nicholas Elias-Gillette (5:07.04) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, and Oscar Schiff (10:54.38) and Zach Jones (11:18.12) also were back-to-back in the two mile – grabbing third and fourth, respectively. The Raiders’ 4×400 relay team (4:02.16) came in fifth place. 

Kudelka’s day went on in the long jump, once again placing in the top five. He jumped 18-0, good enough for fourth, and Evan Moulton’s 17-5 earned him eighth place.
