The Republican enablers of a president who has no respect for American values have broken almost everything they have touched but cannot fix anything. Previous successful initiatives to foster a healthy economy, contain Iran, make progress in energy production with less pollution, and support ally relationships for containment of international dictators have been battered beyond recognition.

There are no successful efforts described or underway to repair the damages done. The creation of the lawless, paramilitary ICE army to manage an imaginary threat from undocumented immigrants has in reality resulted in loss of domestic tranquility, abuse of the rule of law, loss of a taxpaying, working population, and loss of international respect due to America’s betrayal of basic human rights.

After breaking 250 years of efforts toward a just, consensus-driven society, this Republican administration can’t even figure out how to repair simple stuff like the Kennedy Center, the Reflecting Pool, and the White House. A coat of gold paint and finger pointing at others won’t do it.

We’re just weeks from midterm elections. To fix what has been broken, restore problem-solving through expertise and to fix American values that have been distorted demands an extra bit of effort from everyone. Politics cannot be a spectator sport now.
