Tree Within a Tree
Ashfield Road, Hawley
Photograph and text by Georgette deFriesse, Belchertown,
Ashfield Road in Hawley is a relatively short dirt road but it has a lot of personality. The skyscapes over the fields are often lovely. The stars of the show are the maples that line both sides of the road. In October, as the sun sets, the leaves of the maples are lit up so you feel as though you’re driving through a tunnel of wrought gold. Even in the drabbest weather, the trees themselves are amazing, calling to mind Arthur Rackham illustrations.
This maple with its hitchhiker caught my eye several months ago, but it was a long time before I finally stopped to capture the image in early June on my camera.
Created with a DSLR and a medium zoom lens.
