The Northampton girls basketball team moved within a win of qualifying for the postseason with a 44-41 victory over Taconic, Wednesday in Pittsfield.

Amanda Mieczkowski broke a tie with 3.1 seconds left with the first of two free throws. Taconic called timeout after the shot, and following the break, Mieczkowski missed the second free throw.

However, Jill McGrath pulled in the offensive rebound for Hamp. Following a Blue Devils timeout, Mieczkowski received the inbounds pass and was fouled. She made both shots with .7 seconds left to seal the win.

Northampton (9-1) trailed by three with about 1:45 remaining when Mieczkowski drove the lane and kicked to freshman Riley Allen, who drilled a 3 from the corner to tie the game. Hamp never trailed again.

โ€œSheโ€™s playing well,โ€ Hamp coach Perry Messer said of Perry. โ€œSheโ€™s getting better and better every day.โ€

Mieczkowski finished with 15 points. Kolbie Jones added 12 and Allen seven. McGrath finished with two 3-pointers.
