SOUTH HADLEY — Popular restaurant the Yarde Tavern is set to reopen on Friday after the pub was damaged by a fire in an upstairs apartment on the evening of April 11.

“We’re excited to start serving the community again,” said Marco Carreira, a chef and general manager at the restaurant, adding that “outreach has been amazing” from the pub’s regulars throughout the repair process.

Carreira had initially hoped to reopen the restaurant in the week following the fire, but ultimately decided to push the opening until after Easter.

Friday’s hours remained “up in the air” as of Thursday afternoon, Carreira said, although he added that the restaurant will definitely be open for dinner, if not lunch as well.

“We had to throw everything away,” he said, “so things are being remade as we speak.”

The restaurant was not damaged by the blaze itself, but sustained water damage. The fire originated from an unattended cooking pan in an apartment above the pub.

There were no injuries, but six people were displaced as a result of the fire.
