NORTHAMPTON — A former Springfield man was sentenced to three years of probation Wednesday in Hampshire Superior Court for his involvement in a February 2018 armed robbery of cash and marijuana.

Bryan Delvalle, 22, formerly of Springfield and now residing in Florida, pleaded guilty to two counts of armed robbery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, and two counts of possession of ammunition without a Firearms Identification Card.

Delvalle received three years of probation on all six charges, with all sentences to run concurrently with each other.

The charges arose from a February 2018 armed robbery in Northampton where Richard Santiago, 21, and Edwin  Rivera-Cruz, 21, used firearms to rob people in a home of cash and marijuana. They then fled in a car in which Delvalle was a passenger that was subsequently pulled over.

When interviewed by police, Delvalle said he knew that the robbery was going to occur, Assistant District Attorney Jayme Parent said in court.

The charges against Delvalle came as a result of his being involved in the robbery as a joint venture. He is the last defendant in the case to be sentenced, with Santiago and Rivera-Cruz having already pleaded guilty. Both were sentenced in July to 18 months in Hampshire County Jail and three years’ probation.

Parent said that the commonwealth’s sentencing recommendation, which was agreed to by the defense, came as a result of the other defendants having more involvement in the case, and Delvalle’s cooperation with police. His lack of any criminal record was also noted by both the defense and prosecution.

“You don’t often see people with that here,” said Judge John Agostini, who sentenced Delvalle.

Delvalle’s probation will be transferred to Florida.
