HATFIELD – A team of volunteers began working at 6:30 a.m. Saturday to assemble a wooden five-tier cake outside of Hatfield Town Hall in advance of the town’s 350th celebrations next year and had the fifth layer attached before noon. The structure was originally fabricated last December by Westek Architectural Woodworking in Westfield for that city’s 350th anniversary and was moved to Hatfield on Friday in 18 sections. It is ringed with 349 electric candles and will be crowned with a new topper, specific to Hatfield, and a 350th candle.
