To deny food stamp benefits to single adults who are not technically or legally disabled, as recently proposed by our president, is unconstitutional. There are no federal or state laws that require citizens to be employed or earn money.
What are the government’s responsibilities for the nondisabled unemployed? Should they incarcerate them, should they be placed in government housing, should they be forced to work or do mandatory government service, should the government force public and private sector employers to hire a certain percentage of these people, should they be left to live in homeless camps under bridges?
The wants, needs, requirements and the ultimate decisions in a free society such as ours are very complicated and, generally, are vastly different in our various political parties.
