SHUTESBURY — A man who allegedly threatened self-immolation at a Shutesbury home Tuesday morning was taken into custody by Massachusetts State Police troopers on Route 2 in Leominster, according to State Police spokesman David Procopio.

Even though it was uncertain whether the man was still in the Shutesbury residence, Procopio said, a perimeter was set up and a negotiator and tactical team responded with patrols, and attempts were made to establish communication. But the man apparently had left before police arrived.

Shutesbury Police Chief Daniel P. Fernandes said the incident is under investigation.
