I agree with Eleanor Warnock of the Northampton Quakers that it is time to update the Massachusetts state flag and seal.

The current imagery, depicting an implied threat of violence against Native Americans, is indeed appalling. Besides, the seal falls short of being a stellar example of graphic design.

In accord with the brilliant decision by Amherst College to change its mascot to the Mammoths, I propose the following revision to our flag and seal. The center of the new seal shows the trilobite Paradoxidesharlani flanked on the left by the dinosaur track Grallator and flanked on the right by the Eubrontes track. The motto in Latin below reads: Omni bona quaesunt nova et vetera (All good things that are old and new).

Dinosaur tracks, representing the western part of the state, and the large Paradoxides trilobite, representing the eastern part of the state (Quincy), taken together form a unified theme with a particular focus on science education across the commonwealth.
