Calls on both parties to work together

President Donald Trump says, “I am waiting with a pen to sign this health care bill…” I haven’t heard anyone ask if he knows what’s in it.

You would think that’s something that’s so important that he would have to read it before signing it. What happened to the oath that he was sworn in to serve the people of our great country? All the people — the rich, the middle class, the poor, Republicans, Democrats, independents, the well and the sick.

In April I turned 65, and I am presently collecting Social Security with some health issues. I was working as an accountant with multiple jobs, one of which was overseeing the health insurance of a large corporation. Each year we would keep an eye on the insurance rates and the rates always increased — I never saw a rate go down. Every few years we changed insurance companies to get a better deal.

Rates going up because of the Affordable Care Act is false propaganda. Rates go up because of medical care costs, prescriptions and other economic factors.

The only real solution is to try to stabilize the costs of health care, which is going to take working together as a community. We need to stop the lobbying allowing the drug companies to charge us these high rates while other countries are paying a lot less for the medicines made here in America.

We need both parties in Congress to work together, not just waiting in the background as the Democrats are, to fix the Affordable Care Act. There is no right or wrong — find the middle ground.

Let’s hope that Congress and the president wake up and fix this mess we are in, and fix the budget in October and not close our government down.
