NORTHAMPTON — The trial of a former Northeast Center for Youth and Families employee accused of raping a teenager is scheduled to begin April 19 in Hampshire Superior Court.

Alphonso Cintron is charged with rape and abuse of a child as well as child abuse.

Cintron allegedly raped a teenager, who was younger than 16 at the time of the 2009 incident,  according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office. Cintron was a member of the overnight staff at Northeast Center for Youth and Families, which offers residential treatment services for teens.

The teen was under Cintron’s supervision in the program at the time, according to the district attorney’s office.

In addition, Cintron also allegedly failed to alert authorities when he discovered the same teen was being sexually abused by another staff member.

Assistant Northwestern District Attorney Caleb Weiner is prosecutor on the case, and Tracy E. Duncan, of Springfield, is defending Cintron.

The trial is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. April 19 in Superior Court and expected to last five or six days, including jury selection.
