EASTHAMPTON — A small electrical fire took out power and briefly closed off part of Main Street in the early part of Monday evening.
Around 6:15 p.m. a power outage was reported as a result of a main power line falling down near 374 Main St., according to Easthampton Police Lt. Dennis Scribner.
Eversource, the electric utility, attributed the downed wire to equipment failure.
A telephone pole and some grass around it caught fire as a result of the downed wire, according to the Easthampton Fire Department.
Police, fire and Eversource responded to the fire. The area around the fire was closed off, Eversource killed the power to the area and the fire department extinguished the flames.
The section of Main Street between Coleman Road and South Street was reopened at around 7:05 p.m.
Eversource said 929 customers were initially without power. By 7:48 p.m., everyone’s power was restored, according to the utility.
