A late goal with 11 minutes to play by Anthony Piquette gave the Gateway Regional boys soccer team a 2-1 win over Smith Academy at home Thurdsay night in Huntington.

Evan Lee assisted on the game winner. The Gators maintained the late lead by applying additional pressure on net and possessing the ball.

Earlier in the second half, Smith Academy tied the game 1-1 on a penalty kick by Liam Pitrat.

Nick Cooper scored in the first half to give the Gators (2-1-1) an early lead.

Shane Mastello made five saves for Gateway. Jack Hession made eight saves for the Falcons (1-2).

Hopkins Academy 2, Sabis 0 — Jack Feltovic and Eric Berg combined for four total saves in the home shutout for the Golden Hawks.

Ben Anderson opened the scoring in the first half on a penalty kick. A tripping call led to the opportunity.

Brandon Munson scored unassisted in the second half for Hopkins (1-2-1)

McCann Tech 2, Smith Voke 0 — Despite several quality opportunities by Tomaz Oliveira and Anthony Palazzi, Smith Voke could not get on the scoreboard in the road loss.

Jamie Mikalonis had four saves for the Vikings (1-3)

Westfield 2, Belchertown 0 — Tanner Clark made six saves, but the Orioles (2-2) couldn’t muster any offense in the road loss.

Palmer 3, South Hadley 0 — Offense was hard to come by for the Tigers in a road loss.

Nehemiah Wilson stopped 13 shots for South Hadley (0-5).

Girls Soccer

Palmer 3, Smith Academy 2 — Despite a late flurry of offense, the Falcons lost on the road.

Charlotte Vannah entered the game in the second half and made seven saves to keep the Falcons close.

Carrie Ellis and Hannah Rickert scored for Smith Academy (0-2-1).

South Hadley 3, Pittsfield 0 — A pair of early goals by Marley Medina and Breezy Couture gave the Tigers (2-1) an early lead that they would not relinquish at home.

Emma Slysz scored in the second half on an assist by Alexa Blaney.

Sophie Gatzounas made nine saves in the shutout.

Northampton 2, Chicopee Comp 2 — The Blue Devils battled the Pacers to a draw on the road.

Olivia Pruett and Emma Tanner scored for Northampton. Tanner assisted on Pruett’s goal.

Sydney White made four saves in net for the Blue Devils (2-0-2).

Girls volleyball

Amherst 3, Chicopee Comp 0 — Meg Rice had 12 kills in the road win for the Hurricanes.

Nina Hayes chipped in with six aces for Amherst (5-0).

Set scores were 25-13, 25-9 and 25-20.

West Springfield 3, Frontier 1 – The Red Hawks got 17 kills from Lauren Davenport but lost on the road.

It was the first Frontier loss against Western Massachusetts competition since 2013

Ella Deane had 22 assists, while Selayna Bathurst contributed with 18 digs for Frontier (3-1).

Set scores were 25-19, 25-20, 20-25, 25-15.
