NORTHAMPTON — Folks waking up across western Massachusetts on Monday can expect the sun to prevail through the morning and much of the daytime, according to the National Weather Service, accompanied by an unseasonably warm afternoon.

Temperatures Monday are forecast to range from the upper 50s to the lower 60s with cloudier conditions by evening, said Kim Buttrick, National Weather Service meteorologist. But those reasonably pleasant conditions, however, are expected to give way to some rain by Tuesday morning. That will be a welcome and beneficial change up, Buttrick said, considering the persisting drought conditions in the region and across the state.

The area, however, isn’t expected to receive more than half an inch Tuesday. The normal yearly total through mid-November, Buttrick said, is roughly 40 inches of rain. So far this year, conditions have yielded about 27 inches, she added.

“It’s only going to put a dent in things,” she said, “but still, it’s something.”
