AMHERST — Gov. Charlie Baker on Tuesday named Elizabeth D. Scheibel, former northwestern district attorney, to serve on the board of trustees for the University of Massachusetts.

Scheibel was the first woman district attorney in Massachusetts, presiding over a district comprising Franklin and Hampshire counties and the town of Athol. She opted not to seek another term as district attorney in 2010 after serving for 17 years.

Scheibel has also served as chairwoman of the Westfield State University board of trustees.

She was among five new Baker appointments to the 22-member board of trustees Tuesday. The others are businesswoman Mary L. Burns, independent consultant Imari K. Paris Jeffries, Michael O’Brien, an executive at Winn-Companies in Boston, and Charles Wu, who teaches real estate at Harvard Business School.

In addition to the five new appointments, Baker reappointed Robert J. Manning to the board. Manning served as chairman from 2008 to 2010 and will do so again this time, according to the release.

Baker also appointed two new members to the UMass Building Authority, which is tasked with coordinating construction on campuses.

O’Brien as well as longtime UMass trustee Victor Woolridge will serve on the authority.

“I congratulate the new members of the boards on their appointments and thank them for stepping forward to serve the Commonwealth and the University of Massachusetts,” Baker said in the release.

“These leaders will help the University continue to think creatively and boldly about the future of public education in order to grow our economy, strengthen our communities, and create opportunity for future generations of students.”
