■John & Christopher Clarke, agents to Messrs. P. & G. Lorrillard, have reduced the price of Maccoboy Snuff to 25 cents per lb. by the jar, and Scotch Snuff to 16 cents by the bladder. A fresh supply of tobacco & snuff can be purchased at their shop in Northampton.
■A good opportunity is offered to those who are wishing to pay respect to the memory of their deceased friends by procuring suitable marble gravestones. Such persons can be satisfied by calling at the store of J.D. & A. Whitney, Northampton. Marble gravestones from $5 to $40.
■The Northampton Amateur Players are to have a fancy dress ball and masquerade at Carnegie Hall on the evening of May 18th. Stunts from “The Mikado” will be given. Tickets can be obtained at Bridgman and Lyman’s bookstore.
■A Hadley woman who was arrested in Northampton on Saturday on a charge of shoplifting, pleaded guilty in District Court today to four counts of larceny of merchandise from Lambie’s store, the Crafts-Brown Silk Shop and the Woolworth and Kresge stores. The woman was fined $50.
■A demonstration was held Friday afternoon outside the Hampshire County Courthouse in Northampton supporting the reconsideration of the Rosenberg case, and the opening to the public of government files on the case. Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were electrocuted in 1953 after being convicted of stealing atomic secrets.
■Western Massachusetts county officials decided this week to scrap plans for a regional jail, opting instead to cooperate on providing regional services for county jails. The regional jail idea was ruled out because officials felt a large institution would not provide as much personal treatment for inmates.
